Coby N’Gai Jones is an assistant coach who used to be an American soccer player. He was born on June 16, 1970 in Detroit, Michigan, United States, and he grew up in Southern California. After he graduated from Westlake High School, Jones showed skill and talent in football during his time at college where he joined the UCLA soccer team as a non-scholarship player. He then went on to become one of the most successful graduates who played soccer. During his time at UCLA, he was a member of the international fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha.
After his participation in the 1994 FIFA World Cup, Jones signed with Coventry City, a club with the English Premier League. There he spent one season managing to score two goals. He then trained with FC Koln from the German Budesliga before he signed up with Vasco da Gama, a Brazilian club, after he impressed them with his performances with the United States National team during the 1995 Copa America. Jones, however, spent only a few months with Brazil as he signed up with the brand new Los Angeles Galaxy franchise’s for the inaugural season of the club in Major League Soccer.

During his time with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Jones’ best year is said to be 1998 where he ranked second in MLS with his 51 points (13 assists and 19 goals), and he was named as the MLS Best XI and the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year. In 2005, he became the last player in MLS who remained with his original team.
On March 2007, Jones announced that he would be retiring during the following season. Months afterwards, he was announced as the newest assistant coach with Galaxy. After head coach Ruud Gullit resigned in August 2008, Jones served as the interim head until Galaxy hired Bruce Arena, who was Jones’ former head coach with the U.S. National Team.
