Mario Eggimann is a Swiss international football player who currently features for the German Bundesliga club, Hannover 96. He plays as a defender for other teams too like the Swiss National team, FC Aarau, FC Kuttigen and Karlsruher SC.
Mario Eggimann commenced his football career with local side club, FC Kuttigen prior to getting moved to a bigger local rival team, FC Aarau in 1998, where he started his professional club football career. He played for them until 2002, scoring one goal in 41 league matches. For FC Aarau team, he played till 2002, post which he headed to Germany to play for Karlsruher SC team in the Bundesliga. By 2006-07, he was made the captain of the team, during which the team won the championship title of the Second Bundesliga.
In March 2008, Mario exercised a clause in his contract, by moving to Hannover 96 for 1.4 million euros, signing the same till June 2013.
Mario Eggimann was the captain of the Swiss U-21 national team, playing his debut on 7th September, 2007. He played as a half time substitute for Johan Djourou for the Swiss national football team in 2-1 victory match against Chile in Vienna. This match was also a part of the tournament in Austria, which comprised of Japan and Austria team other than Switzerland and Chile team.
Later on, at the Euro 2008, he got selected by the then coach, Kobi Kuhn, though he couldn't make it to the final squad. For the World Cup 2010, he was even selected by Ottmar Hitzfeld.
