Martin Harnik is an Austrian international football player who currently features for the German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen. He is a versatile footballer who can play as a striker, a midfielder and as a winger.
Martin Harnik was born in Hamburg to a German mother and an Austrian father and joined Werder Bremen in early 2006. Initially he played for the club's B team in the third tier Regionalliga. He was promoted to the Bremen first team at the start of the 2007-2008 season and made his debut against Dinamo Zagreb on August 15, 2007 in a UEFA Champions League qualifier.
Harnik made his German Bundesliga debut against Nuremburg in Aigust 2007 and scored the winning goal in that match in spite of coming on as a substitute.
Martin Harnik made his international debut for Austria against the Czech Republic on August 22,2007 and scored on his debut. He played for his nation at the Euro 2008 finals.
