A football defender, Heverton Cardoso da Silva, began playing professional football in the youth division of Pae de Acucar in 2007, but midseason he moved to the youth division of current club, Gremio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense. Initially the move was on loan, but my mid 2007, the transfer became permanent. After completing that season in the youth division, Cardoso made his professional debut for the club in 2008.
Cardoso scored his first goal in his second appearance for the club, in a match against Coritiba.
