Luis Diego Lopez Breijo commenced his professional club football career at Uruguayan club River Plate Montevideo in 1994. He played for them for two seasons, scoring two goals in 37 league matches. He played for his nation until 2005.

He was signed by Spanish club Racing Santander in 1996 and played for them for two seasons, scoring 3 goals in 62 league matches.

In 1998 he moved to Cagliari and has been playing for them since. He has made over 230 league matches for Cagliari.
