An Argentine football defender, German Ezequiel Rivarola began playing professional football in 1996, with Rosario Central. He remained with the club till 2000, when he moved to Spain, to join Sporting de Gijon, with whom he played for one season, before he returned to Rosario Central.

Meanwhile in 1999, Rivarola was a part of the Argentina Under-20 team, which went on to win the South American Youth Championship. In 2003, Rivarola had a stint with Pachuca, before returning to Rosario Central in the same year. He continued with Rosario Central till 2006, when he moved to his current club, Colon de Santa Fe.

In 1998, Rivarola was also a part of the Argentina Under-21 team, which went on to win the Toulon title.
