Mario Melchiot is a Dutch football player who currently features for the English Premier League club Wigan Athletic. He plays as a defender and can feature at either right back or central defence

Mario Melchiot started his professional club career at Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam in 1996 and featured in 73 league matches and scored 1 goal in three seasons for the former European champions. He won the Dutch Eredivisie in 1998 and the KNVB Cup in 1998 and 1999.

Mario Melchiot was signed by Chelsea in 1999 and became a regular for the London Blues, winning the FA Cup in 2000. He scored 4 goals in 130 Premiership matches for Chelsea between 1999 and 2004 and was then signed by Birmingham City on a two year contract in the summer of 2004.
