Mario Melchiot started his professional club career at Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam in 1996 and featured in 73 league matches and scored 1 goal in three seasons for the former European champions. He won the Dutch Eredivisie in 1998 and the KNVB Cup in 1998 and 1999.
