Marcel Desailly is a former French international football player who used to feature prominently during the 1980s,1990s and 2000s. He was born to Ghanaian parents as Odenke Abbey and went onto represent France internationally and became a legend. He played as a defender and won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000. Desailly was named by Pele in March 2004 as one of the 125 greatest living footballers.

Marcel Desailly was born to Ghanaian parents and moved to France as a four-year old after his mother married a French diplomat who adopted all the children. He started his club career at French side Nantes in 1986 and played for them until 1992, scoring 5 goals in 164 impresive league matches. He moved to French giants Olympiqu de Marseille in 1992 and won the European Cup in 1993. He was signed by Italian and European powerhouse AC Milan in 1993 and won the European Cup again, becoming the first player to win the trophy in successive seasons with differeny clubs. He won the Italian Serie A in 1994 and 1996.

Marcel Desailly was signed by English club Chelsea in 1998 and went onto play for them until 2004, featuring in 222 league matches. He became a legend at Chelsea and is still revered by the London club's fans. He played for Qatar SC for the 2005-2006 season and retired after that.

Marcel Desailly made his international debut for France in 1993 and went into feature in 116 international matches for his nation, scoring three goals. He played crucial roles in France's triumph at the 1998 World Cup and at Euro 2000. Desailly was awarded the Legion d'Honneur in 1998 and was made the captain of France after Euro 2000. He promptly led France to the 2001 Confederations Cup victory.
