Franco Baresi is a former professional footballer from Italy. He played his entire career with AC Milan and he also represented Italy from 1982 to 1994. In his first year with the Italian National Team, he helped the team win the FIFA World Cup. He was also a Ballon d’Or runner-up in 1989.

Franchino Baresi was born on May 8, 1960 in Travagliato, Italy. He stands 176 cm tall. He grew up in Travagliato. Surprisingly, the tennis star did not watch football on TV until he was 10 years old. He is the older brother of Giuseppi Baresi.

He started his youth career playing with AC Milan in 1972. He played for the team through to 1977.

Professional Career

He turned pro in 1977 and was signed by Milan, playing with them for a little over two decades through to 1997. In that time, he helped the club win six Serie A titles. They also won two Serie B titles.

He also helped the club win the Supercoppa Italiana four times. For two seasons, he also helped Milan win the UEFA Champions League.

Concurrent with his career with Milan, he also played for the Italian National Team. In 1982, he helped the team win the FIFA World Cup. In 1990, they finished third 1990 and in 1994, they were runner-ups at the World Cup.

In 1989, he was a runner-up for the Ballon d’Or award. In 1990, he was also named a FIFA World Cup All-Star.

He retired from playing professionally in 1997. In 1999, he was named the AC Milan Player of the Century. Baresi was also later named to the AC Milan Hall of Fame.
