Daniel Alberto Passarella is a former professional football player from Argentina. He was part of the team that won the 1978 and 1986 FIFA World Cups. He has played in teams such as River Plate and Fiorentina. In 1976, he was named Footballer of the Year for Argentina, and in 2004, Pele named him to the list of the Top 100 living football players in the world by FIFA.

Professional Career
Passarella turned pro in 1971 and started playing in Junin for Sarmiento. He left the club in 1973 to join River Plate and from 1973 to 1982, he made 226 appearances for the club, scoring 90 goals. He helped the club win numerous Primera Division titles during his tenure with them.
Concurrent with his career at River Plate, he also played for the Argentina National Team and he helped them win the 1978 FIFA World Cup.
In 1982, he left River Plate to play for Fiorentina. In the year that he left the club, 1986, he helped Argentina win a second FIFA World Cup. From 1986-1988, he played for Internazionale. In his final season as a professional football player, he returned to River Plate.
Immediately after retiring, he began managing River Plate and stayed with the team through 1994. From 1994 to 1998, he was tapped to manage the National Team and was named the South American Coach of the Year in 1997.
In 1999, he started coaching Uruguay and in 2001, he briefly coached Parma. From 2002 to 2004, he coached Monterrey then in 2005, he coached Corinthians. Before he retired from coaching, he returned to River Plate to coach them from 2006 to 2007.
