A goalkeeper for Independiente, a top division club in the Argentine football league, Hilario Bernardo Navarro Ruiz was playing for the youth team of Huracan de Corrientes, when he was picked up by Club Guaran, a Paraguayan club, in 2001. He remained with the club till 2005, and in 2006 he moved to Cerro Porteno, another Paraguayan club, but stayed with them only for one season.
In 2007 Navarro returned to Argentine, where joined Racing Club, quickly moving up the ranks and making himself a fixture in the first team, as first choice goalkeeper. This was also helped by former goalkeeper Gustavo Campagnuolo, being given a one game suspension, and then keeping out due to injury.
In 2008, Navarro’s decision to join Independiente, Racing’s biggest rivals came as a shock to many.
