Franky Van Der Elst

Franky van der Elst is a former Belgian football player who is now a football manager. He played as a midfielder.

Franky van der Elst commenced his playing career at RWDM as a defensive midfieldr. In 1984 he moved to Club Brugge, one of Belgium’s biggest clubs, and featured in 465 league matches between 1984 and 1999.

Franky van der Elst scored once in 86 international matches for Belgium between 1984 and 1998. That lone goal came against Norway. He won the Golden Shoe twice in his career and featured at the 1986,1990,1994 and 1998 World Cup finals.

After retiring, van der Elst became a football manager and is currently in charge of football club Brussels. Elst is considered a Belgian legend.
