A Uruguayan footballer from Montevideo, Alvaro Gonzalez began his football career in 2003, with Defensor Sporting Club. He remained with the team up until 2007, during which time he played 122 matches and scored 8 goals. He then moved to Boca Juniors, a First Division Club in the Argentine football league. He appeared in the Recopa Sudamericana with Boca in 2007.
