Born in Argentina, Leandro Daniel Somoza is a midfielder who plays as a professional in the Argentine Primera Division. Somoza began his career at Velez Sarsfield, in 2001. His first five seasons with the club, until 2005, went incredibly well and he became a strong member of the first team, playing an influential role in the 2005 Clausura title winning performance in the Primera Division.
In 2006, he decided to move to Spain and Villareal where he joined many other countrymen including the likes of Juan Roman Riquelme and Rodolfo Arruabarrena. After one year of sitting on the bench and in the reserves, Somoza moved to Real Betis on loan. In the following season, he returned to Villareal but before playing a game, he was again sent out on loan, this time to his former club, Velez Sarsfield.
Somoza has had the privilege of playing for his country when he played a friendly game against Brazil in England. Since then, he has been a part of the squad every now and then, under coach Alfio Basile.
