Andrew James “Andy” O’Brien is a former Republic of Ireland international football player who currently features for the English Premier League club Bolton Wanderers. He plays as a defender.

Andy O’Brien commenced his professional club football at English side Bradford City in 1994 and played for them until 2001, scoring 3 goals in 133 league matches. He was a central figure at Bradford and was signed by Newcastle United in March 2001 for a club record 2 million pounds.

He scored 6 goals in 120 Premier League matches for the Magpies in four years and demonstrated his class. In 2005 he was signed by Portsmouth and played 32 Premier League matches in two seasons at Fratton Park.

Andy O’Brien has dual British-Irish citizenship and made his international debut for the Republic of Ireland against Estoania in 2001. He played for his nation until 2006 and scored 1 goal in 26 matches. He has since decided to hang up his international boots.
