David Stockdale started his career at Conference National side York City in 2003 and played for them until 2006. In that three year period, he featured 24 times for York and also played on loan at Wakefield & Emley and Worksop Town during that team.
David Stockdale was then signed by League Two club Darlington in 2006 after impressing in a pre-season trial. He featured in 47 league matches in two years at Darlington and in June 2008 completed his move to Fulham on an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract.
