Robert Koren started his professional club football career at Slovenian side NK Dravograd in 1996 and scored 7 goals in 129 league matches for them. Koren played for them until 2001 and was then signed by NK Publikum in 2001 and scored 22 goals in 78 league matches for them.
In 2004 Norwegian giants Lillestrom signed Robert Koren and he became the club’s definitive playmaker, scoring 19 goals in 75 league matches between 2004 and 2007.
