Matthijs de Ligt is a soccer player playing for Bayern Munich. He is a Dutch international who plays at centre-back.
Leiderdorp-born De Ligt came through the Ajax youth system, debuting for their first team in September 2016. He became Ajax’s youngest captain in 2018, stepping in for Joel Veltman. He was named in the UEFA Champions League Squad of the Season in 2018-19 as Ajax reached the semi-finals. He impressed across three seasons, winning the Eredivisie in 2018-19 before a move to Juventus in July 2019 for 75 million euros on a five-year deal.
In Italy, de Ligt won the Serie A in his first season but Juventus slipped out of the title race in the following two seasons, ending their run of 11 straight league titles. He joined Bayern in July 2022 from Juventus for 67 million euros plus bonuses.
