Friedal was signed by Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2000 and that was his major breakthrough in club football. He played at Ewood Park for eight teams and made 287 English Premier League appearances and, amazingly for a custodian, scored a goal too.
In the summer of 2008 Friedal was signed by Premier League side Aston Villa and at Villa Park he once again became a key player. In two years, he garnered 114 league matches and helped the Villans establish themselves as a Premier League team.
Tottenham Hotspur came calling in 2011 and Friedel became a first-choice custodian for Spurs rightaway.
Friedel made his international debut for the USA in 1992 and played 82 matches for his country before announcing his retirement in 2005. He played at the 1998 and 2002 World Cup finals and is the fourth most-capped goalkeeper in US team history.
