Wataru Endo is a soccer player playing for Liverpool and Japan. He is a defensive midfielder/centre-back.
Club Career
Yokohama-born Endo spent his youth career at Shonan Bellmare, making his first-team debut in 2010. Endo played more than 150 games for Shonan, before moving to Japanese powerhouse Urawa Red Diamonds in 2016.
At Urawa, Endo enjoyed club success, converting the decisive penalty in their J-League Cup triumph in 2016, while he was part of their 2017 AFC Champions League title. He left Japan for Belgian club Sint-Truiden in 2018.

In August 2019, Endo joined VfB Stuttgart on loan for the season. Before the end of the season, he penned a permanent deal having impressed. He made 133 appearances for Stuttgart, before he joined Liverpool on a four-year deal in August 2023.
International Career
Endo debuted for Japan at senior level in 2015. He was in Japan’s 2018 World Cup squad but didn’t play. He was one of three over-age Japanese players in their squad at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Endo was in Japan’s 2022 World Cup squad and was made the national team captain in 2023.
