Bernardo Fernandes da Silva Junior

Bernardo Fernandes da Silva Junior, known simply as Bernardo, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays for the Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. As of the 2025 season, he continues to ply his trade in Germany, offering versatility across the defensive line.

He is a product of the Red Bull global football network, having played for Red Bull Brasil, Red Bull Salzburg, and RB Leipzig throughout his career. He is known for his ability to play effectively as both a full-back and a centre-back.

He comes from a footballing background and developed his skills in his native Brazil with Audax São Paulo and Red Bull Brasil before making the move to Europe.

Career

Bernardo's senior career began with Red Bull Brasil in 2014. After a brief loan at Ponte Preta, he moved to Austria in 2016, initially joining FC Liefering before quickly progressing to Red Bull Salzburg. His performances there earned him a move to the German Bundesliga with RB Leipzig later that same year.

In 2018, Bernardo moved to the English Premier League, joining Brighton & Hove Albion, where he spent three seasons. He returned to Red Bull Salzburg in 2021, first on loan and then permanently, where he enjoyed a trophy-laden spell, winning multiple Austrian Bundesliga titles and Austrian Cups.

After a stint with VfL Bochum from 2023 to 2025, Bernardo transferred to TSG Hoffenheim in 2025, continuing his career in the German top flight.
