Kylian Mbappe is a soccer player playing for Paris Saint Germain and France. He plays as a winger/forward and is known for his electric speed, brilliant touch and skill, and powerful shooting ability.
He’s an emerging star of world football, having helped his country lift the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He scored a hat-trick in the 2022 World Cup final which France lost on penalties to Argentina.
Career
Mbappe made his professional debut aged 16 for Monaco where he quickly won a host of awards including the Ligue 1 title and Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year.
He was soon picked up by Paris Saint Germain on loan before agreeing to a €180 million deal with the Parisians from Monaco in 2018. That deal made him the most expensive teenager in world football history. That came at a time where he dominated the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year award, winning it three times in a row.
In 2018-19, he scored a career-high 33 league goals, helping PSG win the Ligue 1 title and earning himself his first Ligue 1 Player of the Year award. Despite the arrival of several big names at PSG, including Lionel Messi in 2021, Mbappe won Ligue 1 Player of the Year awards again in 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23.
Mbappe was also the league’s top scorer in five straight seasons, netting 29 times in the 2022-23 campaign. Around this time he was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid or elsewhere in Europe but he opted to remain in Paris, albeit with controversy. At PSG, he’s won five Ligue 1 titles and helped the side reach the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League final.
In 2023, he finished third behind Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland in the Ballon d’Or.
International Career
In 2018 he also played a key role in France’s World Cup triumph in Russia as a 19-year-old, having debuted for his country at 17. Behind Pele, he is only the second teenager to score in a World Cup final. At that tournament, he won the Best Young Player Award.
He was voted the French Player of the Year in 2018, 2019 and 2022, the latter coming as he played a key role for Les Bleus at the 2022 World Cup. France lost the final to Argentina in a penalty shootout after Mbappe had scored a hat-trick. He won the World Cup Golden Boot and Silver Ball.
