Adam James Smith was born in Leytonstone, London, England, where he discovered his love for football. He attended the youth academy of Tottenham Hotspur.

Career

While under Tottenham, he was loaned to play for Wycombe Wanderers as a temporary replacement for their two injured right backs. He debuted with the Wanderers in August 2009 in a match against Charlton Athletic. By the following month, his loan contract ended and he proceeded to compete in the England U19 in the 2010 European qualifications.

Interestingly, Smith was also loaned for a month to AFC Bournemouth in September 2010, and he won a sixty-fourth-minute penalty against Carlisle United. Other teams that he was loaned temporarily to were Milton Keynes Dons, Millwall, and Derby County.
