Club career
Barella came through at his hometown club Cagliari, making his first-team debut in 2015 after spending almost a decade in the youth setup. He gained valuable experience on loan at Como in Serie B in the 2016-17 season.

He returned to Cagliari and established himself across three seasons in the Serie A, earning a spot in the league’s Team of the Year in 2018-19.
Following that exceptional campaign, Inter Milan moved to sign Barella in July 2019 on a year-long loan deal with an obligation purchase with a four-year deal. He became a regular during his loan season, named in the Serie Team of the Year again, making his stay permanent. He also won the Serie A’s Best Midfielder award that season.
Barella was excellent in 2020-21 as Inter won the Scudetto, earning selection in the Serie A Team of the Year for a third straight season.
International career
He debuted for Italy in 2018 and played at Euro 2020, scoring against Belgium in the quarter-finals, before the Azzurri won the title.
