Carlos Gurpegi Nasusia is a Spanish footballer who currently features for the Spanish football club Athletic Bilbao. He plays as a central midfielder.
Carlos Gurpegi is a product of the highly reputed Lezama youth academy and made his debut for Athletic Bilbao in Match 2002 against Villarreal. He soon established himself as a first choice anchoring midfielder for Bilbao.
In November 2003 Carlos Gurpegi tested positive for nandrolone in a match against Real Socieded on September 1 the season earlier. He was subsequently banned for two years but was suspended as the player protested his innocence by saying that his body produced the substance naturally.
Gurpegi made his return from the ban on April 27,2008 against Real Madrid in a 3-0 away loss and is still very much supported by the club.
