Lionel Cappone is a professional football player from France who plays as a goalkeeper. Lionel is a product of the Olympique Marseille youth academy, the club that played near the region where he was born. He was called into the first team, at Marseille, in 1995 but for the four seasons that he was at the club, never got a game. Mostly part of the reserve line-up, as it happens with most young goalkeepers, Lionel was forced to move to a lower division side in search of more playing time.
Lionel moved to Bourg Peronnas in 1999, and played 31 times over the season. He moved to Besancon RC in 2000, finding more time in the first team and ended up with 128 games to his name. In 2004, Lionel moved to Dijon FCO and took up the role of second-choice goalkeeper at the club. In 2005-06, Lionel moved to Angers SCO and again took over the role of the first choice goalkeeper at the club, making another 31 league appearances.
From 2006 to 2011, Lionel moved to SC Lorient, a club playing in the higher divisions of French football and made his 19 appearances, playing as the second goalkeeper for the side. In 2011, he moved to Stade Brestois and at the new club, he has yet to get an opportunity to play, stuck behind Alexis Thebaux, the club’s first choice goalkeeper.
