Vurnon Anita is a Netherlands international football player who currently features for the Premier League club Newcastle United. He plays as a defensive midfielder.
Anita developed at Ajax’s youth academy and made his debut for the Dutch giants in 2005. He gradually made a name for himself at Ajax, winning the Eredivisie twice in succession in 2011 and 2012, the KNVB Cup in 2006, 2007 and 2010 and the Johan Cruijff Shield in 2006 and 2007.
In the summer of 2012 after scoring five goals in 104 Eredivisie matches, Anita joined Newcastle for £6.7 million on a five-year contract.
Anita made his international debut for the Netherlands against Mexico in a friendly international on May 26, 2010 in a game that they won 2-1. He was left out of the squad for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
