Anthony Gildas Kofi Annan aka Anthony Annan is a professional Ghanaian international football player. Presently he plays as a central midfielder for the team of Vitesse in the Dutch Eredivisie of the Fußball-Bundesliga from Schalke 04 team.

Annan played football for the local colts, Super Rainbow Stars in Cape Coast, Ghana. Later on, he joined Cape Coast Venomous Vipers team before joining Sekondi Hasaacas in 2003. Post this, he was with the team of Accra Hearts in 2005, where was known as the best young midfielder in Ghana. Annan had a technique of combining midfield artistry with goal scoring skills, which made him famous amongst football fans.

In January 2007, he signed for I.K.Start team after a promising career in Accra Hearts of Oak. Within few days, he established himself as a first team regular during this team’s preseason games, showing skills in both, on and off the ball technique. But he got injured and was ill during the first part of the 2007 season. Due to this, he did not impress the then coach of the team, Benny Lennartson.

He got relegated during the 2007 season, and joined Stabaek on loan basis till August 2008. It was revealed later that Annan would be traveling to England for a trail with the team of Blackburn Rovers and after impressing the Blackburn staff and Paul Ince, he was sent back to his club to play in another game, where the Blackburn Rovers scouts watched and reported whether he should be signed or not.

One month later, he was presented on Lerkendal for the audience as a Rosenborg player before the match against Valerenga. The team of Rosenborg paid 1.2 million pounds to get Annan from the team of Start. During this time, he made his league debut for the team of Rosenborg, precisely on 14th September 2008, against Fredrikstad, with the match ending to 1-1. After he finished four years in Norway, Annan left the team of Rosenborg to join FC Schalke 04.

With right to his international career, Annan received his first senior call for the team on 20th March 2007 as a direct replacement to Essien. This was a match of FIFA International friendlies against Austria and Brazil in 2007. His first cap was against Brazil team at the Rasunda Stadium in Stockholm when his team lost by 0-1. Later on, he made his first goal for the national team in 2-2 draw match against Mali on 15th November 2009. In 2010, he even played for the national team at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
