Emerson Santos da Silva is a professional football player from Brazil who plays as a defender. Soceidade Esportivo do Gama gave Emerson his chance at the big time when he was picked to be a part of their youth academy. From 1999 to 2001, Emerson played for the youth team before making his way into the first team in 2002. After three seasons of on-and-off showings with the team, Emerson finally moved onto Sao Caetano in 2005 before moving onto Guarani Futebol Clube in 2006.
Throughout this time, Emerson was struggling to get regular playing time but whenever he would, there would be some fantastic showings in the midst of some rather ordinary performances. In the middle of 2006, Flamengo came searching for a central defender and Emerson would fit the billing. He signed up with the Brazilian giants and despite playing just two league games, was a major part of the 2006 Copa do Brasil title winning team.
His stay at Flamengo was short, just a month long, and for the rest of the year, Emerson would be a Veranopolis player, staying there till the end of 2007. In the final months of 2007, Emerson moved to Fortaleza Esporte Clube before spending 2008 at Sertaozinho Futebol Clube for the first part of 2008. He would end the season with a move to Avai Futebol Clube and over the next three years, establish himself as one of the top players in the team.
Emerson was one of the first names on the team sheet and that meant, he would notch up over 150 league appearances for the side, scoring 27 goals while making the central defender’s position his own. He would help the team win the 2009 and 2010 Campeonato Catarinense titles and won the Best Defender award, for the tournament, for both those years.
By now, Emerson had established himself as a top player in the Brazilian league and even got called up for the national team in 2011. Despite the call-up, Emerson didn’t come on onto the pitch, staying on the bench throughout the game. The same year, he would move to Coritiba, strengthening their back-line with his presence. So far, Emerson has been a top player for the team, scoring four times in his 33 appearances for the team.
