Raphael Schafer born on 30 January 1979 in Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Poland is a German football goalkeeper, currently playing for 1. FC Nuremberg.
Schafer began his football career at SC Drispenstedt. At the age of 12 he was in the youth team of Hannover 96 for seven years from 1991-1998.
In his senior career he was the first choice of VFB Lubeck in which he has appeared for 35 times in three years from 1998-2001. Later he got an opportunity to play with 1.FC Nuremberg as a goalkeeper. He had proved himself well in the club with 130 appearances. After that he became a member of VfB Stuttgart in 2007 and stayed with the same for a year. In 2008 he again returned to 1.FC Nuremberg.
While he was a part of club 1.FC Nuremberg, the club was honored with DFB-Pokal in 2007.
