Born on 8 August 1991 in Bochum, Joel Job Matip is a German-Cameroonian football player playing currently for Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04. He was born to Jean Matip, a former Cameroonian football player and a German mother. Marvin Matip is a brother of Joel Matip.
Matip started his career with a professional team, namely SC Weitmar 45 in 1994. In his youth career he has also played with VfL Bochum and Schalke 04. He debuted professionally for the first time in 2009 with Schalke 04 and has scored 1 goal with 4 appearances. He had then signed a 3 and-a-half-year contract with FC Schalke 04 and had made 60 appearances while scoring 4 goals.
He has represented the National Football team of Cameroon in 2010 and has also achieved his first international cap in a friendly match against Italy.
