On 4 August 2009, Marko was almost ready for a move to Italian giants, Internazionale. This deal was held up however due to stress fracture in his right foot, which led to a re-negotiation of the deal between the clubs. Two days later, Twente announced that the loan details had been finalised and that Marko would join this team on loan for the season. This deal was said to be permanent if he was to play few matches. However, if the deal does not become permanent, then the player will have to return to Twente on a pre-agreed contract of two years, extending the contract for a third year. He made his unofficial debut for Inter Milan team in a friendly match held on 5th September 2009 against the Swiss team, FC Lugano. He made his league debut in 1-0 away match victory against Chievo. On 11th October 2008, he played his first match for the Austria national senior team against the Faroe Islands team.
