Garry Monk is an English football player who currently features for the Premier League club Swansea City. He plays as a central defender and is one of the longest serving players of the Welsh team.

Monk commenced his professional club football career at Torquay United in 1995 and a year later moved to Southampton. He was on the Saints’ books for the following eight years, but could only make 11 league appearances for the South Coast club.

During his time at Southampton, Monk was farmed out on loan to Torquay, Stockport County, Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley at various intervals.

Finally in 2004 Monk joined Barnsley on a permanent deal in 2004, but after a short spell was snapped up by Swansea. It was at the Liberty Stadium that Monk began to develop into a fine centre-back and has been at the club ever since, making over 200 league appearances and helping the club reach the Premier League in 2011 and retain their top-flight status the following season.
