Javad Nekounam is an Iranian international footballer who currently features for the Spanish club Osasuna. He plays as a defensive midfielder and is renowned for his ball distribution skills, passing ability and anchoring talent.

Javad Nekounam made his debut for Pas F.C. in 1998 and featured for the Iranian giants in the AFC Champions League in 2005. He was signed by Al Wahda in UAE for 1 million euro. In January 2006 he joined another UAE club, Sharjah.

Osasuna signed Nekounam on a two-year contract in the summer of 2006 and has a 5 million euro buy-out clause. He was selected as the best player for Osasuna in the 2006-2007 season by the supporters of the club.

Javad Nekounam was injured in August 2007 and was out for six months. He made his comeback in April 2008 and was also given a contract extension by the club. He shall now stay at Osasuna until the summer of 2008.

Nekounam earned his international debut for Iran in 2000 and played for his nation in the 2006 World Cup. He has almost 100 caps to his name.
