Ignasi Miquel i Pons is a young Spanish football player who currently features for the English and European giants Arsenal. He plays as a central defender and can also be deployed at left-back.
Miquel developed at the Barcelona youth academy and was on their books between 1999 and 2004. He then joined Cornella and in 2008 moved to Arsenal just after his 16th birthday, and made his debut for the Gunners in the Zinedine Zidane Tournament in Greece.
Miquel made 12 appearances for the Arsenal reserves in the 2009-10 and became the captain. He made his competitive debut for the north London club against Leyton Orient in the fifth round of the FA Cup in February 2011 and played the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw. He played in the replay in March as well, as Arsenal won 5-0 at the Emirates.

Miquel made his Premier League debut for Arsenal against Liverpool on August 20, 1011 and made his bow in the Champions League in December in a 3-1 away defeat to Olympiacos. He has a productive season personally and continues to be part of the Gunners’ first-team squad.
Miquel played for the Spain Under-19 side at the 2011 European Championship and played an important role in their success in the competition.
