Fabio Alexandre da Silva Coentrao, commonly known simply as Fabio Coentrao, is a Portugal international football player who currently for the Spanish and European giants Real Madrid. He is a versatile footballer who can play as a left wingback as well as a central midfielder.

Coentrao commenced his professional club football career at Rio Ave in 2005 and played for them for two seasons before joining Portuguese giants Benfica. He was farmed out on loan to Nacional, Real Zaragoza and Rio Ave in the first two or three years, but since 2009 he made himself a regular for the Lisbon club.

Coentrao won the Portuguese first division title with Benfica in 2009-10 and the Portuguese League Cup in 2009-10 and 2010-11. In the summer of 2011 he was signed by Real Madrid for €30 million on a six-year contract. He played much of the 2011-12 campaign as a central midfielder in Jose Mourinho’s La Liga-winning team.

Coentrao made his international debut for Portugal in November 2009 against Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2010 World Cup playoff first-leg clash at Estadio da Luz that his team won 1-0. He played for his country at the 2010 World Cup finals and at Euro 2012, featuring in over 35 matches for his country so far.
