Leonardo de Dues Santos, popularly known as Dede, is a Brazilian footballer who plays on the left side of defense. He is also known to play as a left-midfielder when required. Born as one of six children, Dede was always into football, even within the confines of his own home.

He joined Atletico Mineiro in the youth divisions, before breaking into the first team in 1996. It took a while for Dede to establish himself as one of the top players in the team. By the time his second season got underway, Dede saw more games as a starter, ending up with almost 35 games and 3 goals, in two seasons of football.

He won the Bola de Prata award, for being the best player in his position, in the Brazilian League. He signed with Borussia Dortmund that season, throwing out spectacular performances and becoming a regular starter for the German outfit. In 2001-02, he helped Borussia Dortmund win the Bundesliga, as well as helped them reach the finals of the UEFA Cup.

Over the years, Dede has become a key player for Dortmund since his transfer in 1998. With almost 320 league appearances and 12 goals, Dede is an indispensible part of the Dortmund lineup.

Despite his club successes, Dede has found it hard to play for Brazil. With Daniel Alves playing ahead of him, Dede has only ever had the opportunity to make one single appearance for the Under-23 national team as well as for the senior national team.
