A German football goalkeeper, Roman Weidenfeller is one of the top men, between the posts, in Germany. Weidenfeller began his career in 1997, after winning the Best Goalkeeper award at the 1997 FIFA Under-17 World Championship. Beginning his youth career with Sportfreunde Eisbachtal, Weidenfeller quickly picked up pace and moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

In his two seasons at Kaiserslautern youth team, Weidenfeller grew into a regular first team player, making 40 appearances. He then moved to the senior team but was restricted to just 6 appearances in 2 years. Kaiserslautern let his contract run out and Borussia Dortmund picked Weidenfeller up for free, as a replacement for Jens Lehmann.

Weidenfeller was a regular for the Dortmund side, and led the team to the finals of the 2003 and 2008 DFB League Cup or Pokal. Both times, the team ended up on the losing side. Banned in the early part of 2007-08, for insulting FC Schalke striker Gerald Asamoah, Weidenfeller has always been a tough competitor.

He has been a regular member of the Dortmund squad and is also the team’s vice-captain.
