Ben Sigmund or Benjamin Robert Sigmundimage:Ben Sigmund|Ben Sigmund is a New Zealand professional football player who at present is playing for Wellington Phoenix, an A-League club. He has also represented the team at under 17, under 20 and in senior men level team too. His debut in international match was in 2000 against Oman team as a substitute.
However, it was in 2007 that he got a chance to play again in an international level and even became the captain of the team for the All Whites in their final match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Fiji. On many occasions, he was also the vice captain along with Tim Brown.
He had successful seasons at Auckland City in the New Zealand Football Championship and has won the league’s Player of the year award in 2008. In spite of his hip surgery in January 2009, he made instant recovery and was included in the men squad of the national team for the FIFA Confederations Cup held in South Africa.
Some of the teams he played for are Canterbury United, Fawkner Blues, Auckland City, Wellington Phoenix and also the New Zealand under 17, under 20 and the national team.
