Tommy Smith or Thomas Jefferson Smith is an English born New Zealand international football player. Presently, he plays for the Ipswich Town team. He made his debut with this team in 2008 against Preston North End. This left sided defensive player is also comfortable in left center back or left back.
He played on loan basis for Stevenage Borough for the second half of the 2007-08 season in the Conference National. At six feet two inches, he was born in 1990 in Macclesfield in England.
Though he was born in England, he used to reside in New Zealand during his youth years and due to this, he holds dual nationality. This gave him a chance to declare himself eligible for the New Zealand national football team. He also represented England team at under 17 and under 18 level.

He played in the FIFA Under 17 World Cup in Korea in 2007 in spite of not playing in the England qualification for the tournament. It was in 2010 that he made his full international debut with a 2-0 friendly match defeat to Mexico in Los Angeles. Later on, he was named in the final 23 men squad in the national team to compete at the FIFA World Cup 2010. In the opening game itself, he made his first World Cup finals appearance with a 1-1 draw against Slovakia.
