Sevilla vs Zenit: Europa League Betting Preview

Sevilla boast arguably the best home across any of Europe’s top leagues and I am backing them to continue their spectacular run on Thursday.

Sevilla boast arguably the best home across any of Europe’s top leagues and I am backing them to continue their spectacular run on Thursday.

The Spanish side entertain Russian Super League leaders Zenit in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and must be fancied to lift this trophy for a fourth time in nine years.

The defending champions enter the upcoming clash having been more than a match for Barcelona in a 2-2 draw at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán last time out and their record at the famous arena is stunning.

You have to go all the way back to February of last season, a sequence stretching 24 matches, to find the last time Sevilla tasted defeat in La Liga on front of their own fans while it has been all too easy in this competition when hosting too.

Seven consecutive Europa League victories, conceding just three goals, is an eye-catching record and Zenit are up against it.

The St Petersburg club struggled in the Champions League in a relatively weak group before the turn of the year but high-flying PSV were dispatched with ease in the last 32 of this and Zenit then squeezed by Torino.

However, Andre Villas-Boas and his players have triumphed just five times in their previous 11 away matches in all competitions and steamy Seville is surely not their idea of fun.

Sevilla thrive at this time of season and elsewhere very much have their eyes on Valencia who currently occupy fourth place in the Spanish top flight.

However, they would love to pick up yet more silverware to go alongside Champions League qualification come the end of term and are currently only headed by in-form Wolfsburg in the Europa League outright betting.
