Liverpool have had their hopes of landing the highly rated versatile England international midfielder Gareth Barry have been shattered into a million shards after the Midlands made the announcement that their skipper is staying put at Villa Park this season.
Gareth Barry has long since been reported with a move to Anfield this summer and the player has asked his club to release him. But Villa are not eager to let him go on the cheap. They gave Liverpool a deadline of 5pm, July 15 which the Reds, according to a rumour in a British tabloid, missed by a mere 15 minutes.
Aston Villa manager Marton O’Neill had this to say about Barry’s stay at Villa Park on the club’s official website:
“Naturally we’re all absolutely delighted that Gareth will be staying at Villa Park and relieved that there is resolution and closure to the transfer saga.
“At a very positive meeting on Monday it was agreed between Gareth, his agent, Mr Lerner and myself that a deadline should be communicated to Liverpool to finally resolve the situation.
“Liverpool were informed and that deadline came and passed.
“Now we can all look forward to the season ahead with relief, anticipation and ambition.”
