For Group D of the qualifying round for the UEFA Euro 2016, Germany plays Gibraltar on 14th November at Grundig Stadion in Nuremberg.
Gibraltar is the newest member of UEFA and it will be the first time they will ever face the Panzers. They have not scored a single goal in the previous three qualifier matches and probably they will not score on this fixture as well, unless the Germans and Manuel Neuer, feel generous.
There is no doubt on which side will win this one. Even more so as Germany need the 3 points after having lost from Poland 2-0 and drawn with the Republic of Ireland. The World Champions are currently third on the ranking table and they need to climb. Even if Gibraltar were a stronger team, they would still have to face the full force of the German onslaught which is a tough proposition for any team around the globe.
Gibraltar have conceded 17 goals so far which is an average of 5 goals plus per game. No one expects Germany to stop at 5 or even 6 goals. They need to score at least 8 to match Poland’s and Ireland’s offensives and ten to make it to the top of the table if Poland and Ireland lose their fixtures.
Poland stand at 7 points with 11-2 goals for and against. Ireland have the same points at 10-2 goals. Germany are at 4 points but at 3-4 goals. They need to get from -1 to +9 on the goal average. And they need to do that on Friday against Gibraltar.
Even if Germany are not at such a good form lately, they can definitely score that many goals against their opponents. Anything less than 6 or 7 goals’ margin will be a great surprise. It would be easier if the Germans did not have a strong motive to play for. A German team with a motive makes the fixture a mission impossible for Gibraltar.
