PSV vs. Panathinaikos: Europa League Betting Preview

PSV have been perfect on home soil so far this season and their terrific run is expected to continue on Thursday.

PSV have been perfect on home soil so far this season and their terrific run is expected to continue on Thursday.

The Eredivisie leaders have won each of their nine matches in all competitions this term at the Philips Stadion and visiting sides have found the home net on just one occasion.

That was way back in August when Breda managed a solitary consolation strike in the Dutch top flight during a 6-1 hammering and it has been seven wins and as many clean sheets since.

PSV qualified for the Europa League via a pair of two-legged successes this summer and it was five wins from half a dozen matches overall in this competition before a 1-0 defeat in Moscow versus Dinamo last time out.

Up next for Phillip Cocu’s side are Greek outfit Panathinaikos and Thursday’s opponents are usually there for the taking on their travels.

Languishing in sixth place in the Super League, having scored just eight goals in six domestic outings, Pana’ were 2-0 losers in Portugal versus Estoril in the Europa League on their final start and that came after an opening loss to the Russians.

It is easy to see Thursday’s away team lacking in motivation - already facing such an uphill struggle to qualify for the knockout stage - and I am firmly with the Dutch league leaders.

Panathinaikos’ away record in Europe, in particual, in recent seasons has been wretched and I also want to back PSV to prevail without conceding, as has so often been the case this campaign, at odds against.
