Denmark and Armenia are both a part of Group I of the 2016 European Qualifiers. They will be taking each other on in the first qualifying match that is scheduled to be played at the Parken Stadion at 1700 hours BST on September 7, 2014.
Denmark has managed to win the European Championship once back in 1992. Since then they reached the quarterfinals only once in 2004, while the remaining tournaments, they haven’t passed the group stage.
Statistically speaking, Denmark has managed to win only 25% of their total games played at the European Championships once they qualified. Since 184, they managed to qualify every four years except for the year 2008.
Denmark has a decently experienced squad going into these qualifiers who are led by ex-Liverpool defender Daniel Agger. The experience that Christian Eriksen and William Kvist coupled with the strength Nicklas Bendtner brings upfront should be enough to see them through the smaller teams in their group.
The other teams that they face in the same group are Albania, Portugal and Serbia.
Armenia has never managed to qualify for the European Championship. However, their recent memory of playing Denmark will be a happy one when they hammered the Danes 4-0 last year.
Most of the hopes of the Armenian fans will rest on Borussia Dortmund creative midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Apart from Mkhitaryan and country captain, Goalkeeper Roman Berezovsky, none of the players play in any of the top recognized leagues in the world.
This lack of experience could dent the aspirations of the Armenians, but like before they will be confident to repeat the feat that they managed last time they played Denmark.
Prediction: Denmark 1-1 Armenia
