As the January transfer window edges to a close, the leading Premier League clubs are scrapping for the signatures of some of the biggest names in football in order to strengthen themselves for a final onslaught.
Arsene Wenger is perhaps the busiest of all managers as the Frenchman is looking to sign German international attacking midfielder Julian Draxler from Schalke in a 37 million pound deal. Wenger is also on the lookout for a striker whom he would ideally like to sign on loan.
However, Arsenal have been told in no uncertain terms by Barcelona that Christian Tello is not available for a loan spell at this stage of the season after having impressed Tata Martino.
As a result, the Gunners have switched their attention to Alvaro Morata of Real Madrid, who has been linked with the North London side throughout the transfer window.
Manchester United fans may well have a chance to rejoice yet again as the club are looking to sign Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich in a 25 million pound deal.
Kroos, who reacted angrily at being substituted by Pep Guardiola at the weekend against Stuttgart has rejected a new contract offer from his current employers and admitted that he was looking for new pastures.
Guardiola on his part seemed to admit that he may let the player leave if the right offer came along. Incidentally, David Moyes along with his assistants Steve Round and Phil Neville were seen at Bayern’s game against Monchengladbach last weekend, where the trio were entertained by none other than the player’s agent.
Moyes on his part has added fuel to the rumors when he admitted to the media that he is looking to strengthen central midfield at United. The Scot met United CEO Ed Woodward at the training ground this morning and the latter remains the man who is in charge of transfers at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Nani may be heading towards the exit door at Man United with Inter Milan interested in the Portuguese midfielders services. The Italians are looking for a loan deal that would run until the end of the season with a view to a permanent transfer.
Chelsea are unlikely to see any further arrivals in this transfer window. However, there are major question marks over David Luiz’s future at the club.
Barcelona and Bayern are said to be interested in the Brazilian defender and are said to have prepared offers of over 34 million pounds for the flamboyant defender.
Although Luiz is considered to be future Chelsea skipper, there will not be much noise if he were sold by Jose Mourinho, as was proved when the latter sold another cult player in the form of Juan Mata to Premier League rivals United last week.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was clearly gutted at being defeated to the signature of primary target Mohammad Salah by Chelsea.
However, the Welshman is in no mood to give up as he has made his move for highly rated Ukrainian winger Yevhen Konoplyanka who plays for FC Dnipro in a deal that is estimated to be worth around the 20 million pound mark.
Spurs have also made a dash for the winger but it is thought that the versatile winger will complete his move to Anfield by the deadline as talks are at an advanced stage between the two clubs involved in the deal.
