Nemanja Matic has completed his much mooted move to former club Chelsea as Jose Mourinho strengthened a key area for the Blues who are looking to become champions come May.
Matic is an excellent defensive midfielder who also scores the occasional goal. At 6 feet 4 inches, he is an imposing character on the pitch and could prove to be vital for Chelsea for the next five and a half years.
Matic however, would not be able to play any part in Chelsea’s champions league campaign as he remains cup tied with Benfica. The transfer is said to have cost Chelsea about 21 million pounds.
The blues are looking to offset the spending by selling Kevin De Bruyne to Wolfsburg with the two clubs having agreed upon a fee of 16.7 million pounds. Chelsea have also made a 21 million pound move for Southampton’s Luke Shaw, one which has been rejected by the Saints.
The Saints could also lose Adam Lallana to Manchester United as David Moyes continues to look for creative players in the middle of the park for the Red Devils who have also been linked to some European heavyweights, the newest of whom appear to be PSG’s Lucas Moura.
The Brazilian was close to agreeing a transfer to Manchester before PSG came in for him offering much more money than United. However, having fallen down the pecking order in France, Moura is looking for a move in order to further his chances of playing for the Selecao at the World Cup in Brazil.
Anderson in the meanwhile is in Florence for a medical ahead of a loan move to Fiorentina that could be made permanent in the summer. It is thought that United have also made Nani available for transfer in the current transfer window.
Hull City have confirmed the transfer of Nikica Jelavic to the club from Everton and are close to securing Shane Long on a similar 7 million pound deal from West Bromwich Albion. Meanwhile, West Ham United are locked in talks with Southampton for the possible transfer of England striker Ricky Lambert in a 7 million pound deal.
Arsenal have stolen a march towards securing German wonderboy Julian Draxler from Schalke as it is believed that Arsene Wenger is prepared to meet the German’s 37 million pound release clause. A hindrance in the deal is Spurs decision not to make the transfer any easier by keeping Lewis Holtby away from the clutches of Schalke, who would have been a like for like replacement for the German outfit.
The Draxler deal could still happen within the course of this window although a summer deal is more likely.
