Liverpool defender Daniel Agger plans to honour his contract despite interest from Barcelona.
When teams like Barcelona come knocking most players would drop everything and decide to play for them.
They are, after all. one of the most successful teams in the world and have a star studded line-up. Playing alongside Lionel Messi, Neymar, Xavi Hernandez, Andre Iniesta and many more would be very appealing.
What also runs through the minds of the payers is whether or not they will get game time, but when that is a surety most players will succumb to the want of playing at the Camp Nou.
Daniel Agger has been a long term target for the Spanish giants and they have knocked on the doors of Anfield many times to try and secure the services of the defender. Agger has time and again said that he will look his contract through and has immense love and regard for Liverpool.
Agger has revealed he plans to honour his entire contract at Liverpool despite attracting interest from Barcelona a couple of times. It was during the summer transfer window that Barcelona enquired about Agger.
The enquiry was conveniently rebuffed by both the player and Liverpool. Agger still has about two and a half years before he runs out of a contract and with the interest from other teams, Liverpool will surely be looking to extend his contract as soon as possible.
Also, with the way Liverpool has been performing for the last six odd months, there is no actual reason for him to be looking for another team.
When Agger was asked about the move he said, “The Barcelona move was up to the club. The club would not sell me. I do not know. Right now I have two and a half years left on my contract, and I intend to fulfil my contract. I’m glad at Liverpool and playing well.”
He added: “We have a great team, and if I can win something it will be great. Liverpool is a huge club.”
Liverpool will also be very happy that a player of his magnitude is loyal to the club as it will definitely motivate the other in the dressing room.
