Holloway Delighted At Palace Promotion

Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway was full of joy after his side won promotion to the Premier League with a 1-0 playoff win over Watford on Monday but admits life in the top flight will be tough.

Kevin Phillips, playing in his fourth promotion playoff having never previously been successful, netted the winning goal from the spot in the final minute of the first half of extra time.

Manchester United-bound Wilfried Zaha won the penalty for Phillips in what seems likely to be his last game for the club, unless the Red Devils opt to loan him out again.

“Phillips hasn’t won before, now he has. Wilfried gets the penalty. Games like that are won and lost on moments of genius and I think Wilf’s little run was unplayable,” Holloway said.

“I’m going to enjoy today, enjoy tonight and then scratch my head and think about how we’re going to stay there.”

Reflecting on Zaha’s future, Holloway said he’d be surprised if United let him return.

“I think he (David Moyes) would be silly to give him back,” he said.

“It might be unrealistic but who knows? He’ll know the task that he’s got, so good luck to him and good luck to us.”
