Pellegrini Confirms Man City Interest

Outgoing Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini has revealed Manchester City are in the race to sign him as their new manager.

Outgoing Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini has revealed Manchester City are in the race to sign him as their new manager.

Pellegrini has already confirmed he will be departing Malaga to “fulfil his sporting ambitions” and with City recently sacking Roberto Mancini, the speculation has mounted.

“I am fortunate to have some very good options and Manchester City is one of them,” Pellegrini said.

Pellegrini, who guided Malaga into the UEFA Champions League knockout phase this term, whilst also steering the club to an impressive sixth place finish, has also been linked with AS Roma, Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, City chief executive Ferran Soriano said Pellegrini ticks the boxes of the right kind of candidate for their vacant position.

“I think the boxes are right. You know what we want,” he said. “The analysis of the candidates goes beyond the results that we can see. Age is not relevant at this point, but with the kind of squad we have, we want a senior manager.

“We want a manager who knows about football but we want somebody who knows about man management and this is something we are convinced about - myself, the board, the owner - that it is impossible for us to win, win the Champions League, if we don’t have a group that behaves like a family.”
